What is cold runner mold
Cold runner mold refers to a mold that only has a cooling system and no heating system in the mold cavity. There is no constant temperature heating during the injection of molten plastic into the mold cavity.
After injection molding, wait for the plastic to cool and form, then open the mold and take it out to complete one injection molding production.
This type of mold has simple structure and lower cost than hot runner mold. It is suitable for the production of small and medium-sized batches of plastic parts, as well as mold manufacturing for projects with simple shapes and no complex and narrow structural modules.
Process
1. Mold design: According to product requirements and injection molding process conditions, design the mold frame structure, mold cavity, mold core, runner system design, and cooling system design of the cold runner mold.
2. Material preparation: Select the appropriate material for making the mold, usually a metal material with good thermal conductivity and wear resistance.
3. Processing and manufacturing: According to the design drawings, use CNC machine tools for milling and turning to process various parts of the mold.
4. Electrical discharge machining: Perform electrical discharge machining on some parts with complex shapes or requiring high precision to meet design requirements.
5. Assembly and debugging: Assemble the processed parts, connect the cooling system, and start debugging the mold.
6. Trial production and improvement: Load the mold into the injection molding machine, produce some samples for inspection, and then improve and optimize the mold based on the trial production results until product manufacturing and production requirements can be completed.
