About Injection Molding
What is injection molding
Injection molding is a manufacturing process for mass production of plastic products. It is widely used in the production of plastic parts in many fields such as industry, electronics, automobiles, medical, and packaging.

The principle of injection molding
the melted plastic melt is injected into the metal mold, and then taken out after cooling, the result is an injection molded plastic part.
Modern injection molding process
After a professional injection molding engineer loads the injection mold into the injection molding machine, the injection molding machine automatically completes the injection molding manufacturing of plastic parts 24 hours a day. The quality of injection molded products is determined by injection molds, injection molding equipment, and professional injection molders.
Injection Molding Step Guide
When using the injection molding process to mass-produce plastic parts, the specific injection molding steps are as follows:
Step 1: Complete the plastic part design
- Design CAD digital 3D models of plastic parts for free.
- Make product prototypes of plastic parts for free.
Step 2: Complete injection mold manufacturing
- Choose the appropriate mold material, generally aluminum or steel.
- Choose the type of mold to make, including double-plate mold, three-plate mold, cold channel flow mold, and hot channel flow mold. They are also divided into single-cavity and multi-cavity types. The specific type needs to be selected according to your own injection volume, injection time, and injection material.
- Based on the qualified product prototype, design the corresponding 3D mold model on CAD.
- Cut and mill high-precision mold parts on CNC machine tools.
- Assemble qualified high-quality molds, and conduct precise measurement and testing of their structures and lubrication and maintenance of moving parts.
Step 3: Start the injection molding process
- Install the injection mold on the injection molding machine, which requires a professional injection molder to operate.
- Pour the injection molding material into the hopper and start to melt the plastic material into a liquid state.
- Mold closing: Operate the injection molding machine to close the molds.
- Inject the melted plastic liquid into the mold through the injection molding machine.
- Maintain pressure inside the mold and wait for the injection molded parts to cool.
- Operate the injection molding machine to open the mold and take out the cooled injection molded parts.
- Clean the internal cavity of the mold and prepare for the next injection molding.
This is the complete injection molding process. The entire injection molding process may only take more than 10 seconds under the automatic operation of a large professional injection molding machine. It can be quickly injected under the operation of a professional injection molder.

Step 4: High-quality injection molding inspection
- All injection molding steps must be executed after strict testing.
- The accuracy and quality of all products, including product prototypes, injection molds, and injection molded products, should be inspected by a professional QC team before being delivered qualified.
- Dispose of unqualified injection molded products harmlessly or recycle them in a manner that complies with industry standards.
Injection molding equipment
1. CNC machine tools
By using computer CAD digital models, materials are processed with high precision through cutting and milling. Produce high-quality product prototypes and injection molds.

Advantages of injection molding
1. The injection molding process is automatically manufactured by the injection molding machine 24 hours a day, which reduces labor costs and can quickly produce plastic parts.
2. The injection molding design is flexible and can adapt to the manufacturing of plastic parts with complex structures, different sizes, and different materials.
3. There is no waste of plastic raw materials in injection molding, leaving only a small amount of scrap waste to protect the environment.
4. Products manufactured by injection molding have good consistency and have uniform characteristics such as size, weight, and color.
5. The cost of products manufactured by injection molding is low, and as the amount of injection molding increases, the cost spread to each plastic part will be lower.
Disadvantages of injection molding
1. The mold manufacturing cost in the early stage of injection molding is relatively high, which is the main cost.
2. The injection molding process is not suitable for the production of very small batches of plastic parts, as the cost of each plastic part will be very high.
